Brave Little Deena
This session was an emotional one. I recently photographed Rachael and Nick—clients I hold dear—alongside their 3-year-old Arabian filly, Deena. Deena was recently diagnosed with a serious, likely fatal heart condition. Their vet, who is also a client of mine, urged them to schedule a session with me as soon as possible… just in case. We photographed this session the same day as their goodbye session with Belle. I cried when I got home, because photographing these two sessions for the same owners who adore their animals so so much, was absolutely heartbreaking.
Deena came from a tough beginning, but she has found her forever people in Rachael and Nick. She is so incredibly loved and they are doing everything in their power to uncover the cause of her condition and explore any possible treatment. She’ll be seeing a specialist soon and everyone is holding on to hope.
Despite still having a bit of “baby brain,” Deena was such a brave girl in front of the black backdrop. She stood like a champ and we captured both her spirit and the deep bond she shares with her humans.
This session was filled with love, tenderness, and quiet strength. It was an honor to document these moments—just as Deena is now: adored, safe and surrounded by love.
