Some sessions hold a little extra weight in the heart and this was one of them.
Originally, we had planned to photograph black background portraits of three beautiful mares: Juliet, Athena and Chiquita. But the evening before our session, Juliet suffered a serious injury that forced us to postpone. It was a scary, emotional moment for her owner, who wasn't sure if we’d ever get the chance to do these portraits the way we had imagined.
Thankfully, Juliet is making a strong recovery and not long after, we were able to move forward with the session. Photographing her, knowing everything she had been through, was incredibly meaningful. She stood with such quiet strength and grace and it felt like such a gift to be able to preserve her spirit in this way.
Athena and Chiquita were just as lovely to photograph, each with their own personality shining through. Together, these three mares made for a beautiful collection of portraits.
After I sent the gallery, I received the sweetest message:
“YOU ARE THE MOST INCREDIBLE HUMAN EVER! I cannot possibly put into words how talented you are and how special these images are to us. The fact you created these photos of Juliet after everything she did makes me want to cry. Thank you so so much!!”
This reminds me why I do what I do. These aren’t just portraits. They’re stories, memories and sometimes healing moments, too.
I’m honored to have been a part of this one.
