Mustang trainer first touches: Jeff cook & Lucky Strike

Events & businesses, Equestrians

It's always such a pleasure to take photos for Jeff Cook at Dream Horse. Jeff picked up a new Mustang last weekend that he was going to compete with in the next Fort Worth Extreme Mustang Makeover.

They asked me to come out to photograph the first touches.

Lucky Strike was rounded up in an emergency roundup in Nevada last September where the horses were dying of starvation. He's only 3 years old but due to the lack of food, he's a tiny guy and not where a "regular" 3 year old horse would be both physically but also mentally & emotionally.

Jeff has now decided to bow out of competing with him by putting the horse first. This little man is not ready for the pressure this competition would put on him. He needs to develop some more first.

I'm heartbroken for Jeff that the new journey is ending so quickly but applaud him for putting the horse's well being first, as he always does.

Here are a few of my favorite images of Jeff working with Lucky on day 3 out of holding.
