Margarita: until we meet again

Equine, Personal

To the best girl there ever was.

Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover it. You were the absolute best and I couldn’t have adored you more. Your hair was any girls envy, you’d walk through fire for the people you loved, you were the smallest in the mares pen at the ranch but you ruled it with an iron hoof.

I can't even begin to count the number of times I was asked when you were due and I had to explain that your name was Margarita and being named after a cocktail and a pizza, you were just rocking it.

I’ll never forget your bucking fest with me during Team Penning when everyone had always said you weren’t able to buck because of your big belly. You proved them all wrong by turning Team Penning into a Rodeo.

We took a tumble together once too when you tripped while we were loping. I flew to the side of the trail, you did a head roll and landed sideways in the trail. You were so shocked by what had happened that you stayed down for a minute and I thought you were seriously injured. Thankfully you just had a scratch on your face.

You took rocky mountain trails like it was nothing. You almost ran up and down Suicide Pass, you were that sure footed on the mountains, like a true Fjord pony.

After I had a horrible accident riding another horse, you were the first one I rode again when I was physically able to. Because I trusted you with my life and I knew that you would take care of me. And you did.

You loved attention and being pampered. Bath time was your absolute favorite and you savored every minute of it.

Photographing you was always the absolute best. You were so photogenic. One of my favorite images I've ever taken, is a photo of you. It hangs in my office. I've even won awards with it.

You were one of a kind, one in a million.

I'm so thankful for the time we got to spend together. For all the joy, love and beautiful memories you've given me that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

I’m also very thankful you got to live the last few years enjoying your retirement at the Veterinary Campus of the University of Arizona where they all loved you.

Until we meet again my sweet girl.
